About
Sara Libman
(She/her/hers)
I developed the notion of environmental stewardship as a child when I was enrolled in Scouting. I am proud to say that I was among the first girls to join Scouts Canada when the organization went fully co-ed in the 90s. Enrolling in Scouting during this time of change exposed me to issues of sexism and injustice, while also opening my eyes to environmental issues like pollution and conservation issues. Along with providing me with survival skills and an interest in various outdoor hobbies, Scouting heavily influenced my passion for justice and protecting the natural world.
With my strong reading and writing skills, becoming an environmental lawyer seemed like the most natural course of action to use my strengths to address environmental issues.
I am a proud Bora Laskin Faculty of Law (Lakehead University) alumni. Because of Lakehead’s unique, hands-on “Integrated Practice Curriculum”, I was exempt from the articling requirement before becoming a licenced lawyer. Instead, I spent 3 years of my legal studies being immersed in practical assignments of drafting legal documents, negotiation exercises, and oral advocacy through mock trials. Furthermore, I completed a four-month placement in my third year at the Canadian Environmental Law Association, gaining knowledge and experience in environmental and constitutional law files.
Since being called to the Bar, I have worked on a wide range of files, including civil litigation, administrative law, environmental and natural resources law, and energy law. As a result, I have appeared before various courts and tribunals, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, and an environmental assessment Joint Review Panel. I have previously been retained by specialty legal clinics, environmental non-profit organizations, environmental grassroots groups, and individuals.

Personal
Outside the practice of law, I love spending time in nature, going on hikes, birding, and practicing
nature photography (all the photos on this website were taken by yours truly all over Ontario). If I'm not outdoors, I enjoy getting cozy with a cup of tea and a good book. And just as I fell in love with nature as a child, I spend my free time showing my toddler the wonders of the natural world, in the hopes of sowing the seeds of environmental stewardship in the next generation.
